The new library release has support for the bluetooth module, fixes for uart_readln() and uart_requeue(), a way of setting the uart parity and block-like sending of data over uart (both need the included firmware).

The library now also works on the ARM7 core, if you are having other plans for your ARM9.

Happy hacking.

libdsbrut-0.91 released, cartridges in stock again

We just released a minor update to our library which is required for utilizing the on-board 3g sensor. Also included is the fast a/d conversion code contributed by Bill, which might still need some testing but shouldn't be impacting other functionality. (In order to try it out you need to have the bundled firmware sketch running on your cartridge.)

On a different note, we finished a couple more of the DS brut and DS brut with 3g cartridges - which are available through the site now!

libdsbrut-0.9 released

Our library for the Nintendo DS and the matching firmware for the Atmel Atmega microcontroller underwent a major rewrite, which is reflected in the new name (libdsbrut) and the optimistic jump in version numbers.

There are too many improvements to list them all, but overall DS brut should be much more robust and extensible. There are serveral new functions and the interfaces of the previous ones were also reworked, so have a look at the documentation!

We also put two applications in the package, one real serial terminal (yes, even with keyboard..) and a tool for plotting the values of analog inputs on the screen - sure handy!

Stay tuned for further updates and report any issues with the code. (devkitPro >= 24 required)

DS brut 3g released

We are happy to announce the immediate availability of the DS brut 3g cartridge. This new extension card supports the same connectivity as the regular DS brut cartridge but adds a sensitive ADXL330 3-axis accelerometer to the tiny footprint of the device.

The sensor can be easily accessed by reading analog values from the PC1, PC2 and PC3 ports (one for each axis), and allows for even more possibilities in bringing games to a physical realm and prototyping.

We also have the DS brut in stock again. A new firmware and library is coming along nicely and will be released soonish!

work on ds bluetooth, devkitPro 25

Happy New Year from DS brut!

We are busy working on our Bluetooth extension card for the Nindendo DS, codenamed Cuvée, and on various improvements to DS brut. The hardware is already up and running, all it needs is just some more code. We're looking forward to release DS bluetooth at the beginning of February.

In the meantime a new version of devkitPro got released which, once again, breaks compatibility with all existing homebrew sources out there (which we had hoped would not happen that frequently). If you already have a toolchain up and running we advise you to stick to this version for the time being. If you are adventurous or for some other reason forced to use devkitPro version 24, please find a matching test version of libDSuart in the SVN trunk.

List of changes currently in SVN trunk:

added support for devkitArm release 24 (everything except arm7 template.c and arm9 main.c can still also be used with previous versions)

rebased arm7 code to new template (bigger, but has dswifi & maxmod out of the box)

added experimental hardware reset (needs a modified bootloader, see libDSuart/bootloader/ and uartHardwareReset())

added bootloader

added test code for hardware reset and reading accelerometer values

libdsuart-0.3 released

We've shipped out the first batch of cartridges a few weeks ago and we have so far received only very encouraging comments. Thanks for your interest in this project and creative tinkering with the NDS!

Today, we've released an updated library version which can be downloaded from this website or the SVN tree. Changes since the previous version:

changed uartOpen() to wait for cartridge to become accessible (prevents bogus readings right after bootup)

changed variable types to the more common {u,}int{8,16,32}

fixed a bug in main.c that ate every second incoming character

rewrote the readme.txt (added some release notes and troubleshooting hints)

added code for accessing the ADJD-S371 color sensor module via i2c (in examples/i2c)

This library version comes with no changes to the firmware running on the cartridge, so there is no need updating it this time.

Looking forward to your projects, best wishes

gordo & gohai

libdsuart-0.2 released

The latest version adds support for controlling the I2C bus on pins PC5 (SCL) and PC4 (SDA). For this,
uartI2CSend()
and
uartI2CReceive()
were added to the library - they even return to you the result of the operation, which is very helpful as you e.g. immediately know that a slave device did not send an acknowledge, etc.

You'll need the latest version of the Arduino software (0012) to compile the firmware. (All devices we'll ship out from now on will of course have the latest firmware up and running.)

Enjoy!
